You may wonder, boy, this guy is living in this monastery for 5 months and all he does is work and no play. From an everyday perspective this may seem true. I don’t go to cinemas, I don’t indulge in chocolate eating parties and I surely don’t hang out on a couch. Just 3 meals and two kirtans (the singing in the morning and afternoon) a day. We oftentimes need a break when we are working our regular jobs. This is our play when we are engaged in that role.
But the reality here is different. There is no need for a break. I’m working for an ideal here. My own ideal, the monastery’s ideal, Swami’s ideal and the community’s ideal. Isn’t it great to do what you love? And yes it can be hard sometimes when my mind yearns for an easy fix. But simply put if you believe in something, you need to work for it. There are no free lunches.
When working at Audarya, I’m cultivating this ideal within the soil of my own heart.
